Michael Roeger breaks T46 world record at Sydney Marathon

Paralympic veteran Michael Roeger broke his own T46 world record at the Sydney Marathon, finishing with a time of 2:18:36. The performance was 17 seconds faster than his previous record set in London in 2019.

During the race, Roeger ran alongside the leading female elites. He notably eased his pace in the final 50 metres to allow Kenyan runner Peres Jepchirchir to claim her fourth world major title. Jepchirchir also assisted Roeger during the race by offering him hydration after he missed several drink stations positioned on the right side of the road.

Roeger’s achievement comes shortly after the birth of his second child. His performance has renewed discussions regarding the inclusion of the marathon in the Paralympic program for the Brisbane 2032 Games.
