Michael Rosen promotes literacy through Jersey park trail and upcoming poetry day

Children’s author Michael Rosen recently visited Jersey as part of the Jersey Festival of Words. During his visit, he toured a “story trail” in Millennium Park, an initiative launched two years ago by Every Child Our Future. The trail features rotating pages from popular children’s books to encourage discovery-led reading.

In the United Kingdom, the third annual Michael Rosen Day is scheduled for November 12, 2026. The event includes a free online “Poetry Party” hosted by Walker Books and Read for Good, aimed at students aged 5 to 12. This year’s celebration follows Rosen receiving the 2026 Hans Christian Andersen Award for Writing.

The events coincide with discussions regarding youth literacy trends. Data from the National Literacy Trust indicates that while reading enjoyment among 8 to 18-year-olds rose slightly in 2026, a gap in reading enjoyment persists between students receiving free school meals and those who do not.
