Michael Roth to advise German lottery companies

Former SPD politician and long-time member of the Bundestag, Michael Roth, will begin serving as an advisor to the Deutscher Lotto- und Totoblock (DLTB) on October 1. The DLTB serves as the umbrella organization for 16 independent state lottery companies in Germany.

Roth will provide strategic advice through his newly established firm, Freedomfighter GmbH, which focuses on international and European affairs. His primary focus will be addressing European legal questions regarding Germany’s gambling monopoly and the upcoming revision of the state treaty.

Roth noted that while the German lottery system is state-organized, there has been sustained pressure from Brussels toward privatization. He emphasized the importance of the sector, noting that approximately 3.4 billion euros are distributed annually to fund sports, culture, and social initiatives.
