Michael Saylor projects $120 trillion crypto economy by 2035
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy, has projected that the crypto economy could grow from approximately $3 trillion to between $100 trillion and $120 trillion by 2035. This thesis assumes the industry eventually reaches ten percent of the value of other global asset classes.
Saylor’s vision relies on structural changes to how digital assets are used, moving beyond static holdings toward yield-bearing products. He proposes the development of equity and credit products, including a Bitcoin-backed digital dollar offering yields near seven percent. He advocates for increased competition among banks and fintech companies in the digital dollar and tokenized securities markets.
To achieve this scale, Saylor argues for regulatory frameworks that support the rights to create, issue, custody, transfer, and use digital assets. He emphasizes the need for improvements in digital payments, privacy, identity verification, and tax structures to allow software to facilitate broader financial services.
