Michael Saylor says ChatGPT helped Strategy raise $15 billion with new preferred‑stock structure

Executive Chairman Michael Saylor disclosed that Strategy used OpenAI's ChatGPT as a design tool to create a novel Bitcoin‑backed preferred‑stock instrument. The AI‑assisted model, described as a hybrid between common equity and debt, enabled the company to raise roughly $15 billion through an IPO and subsequent capital‑raising rounds. The preferred shares, such as the convertible STRK and perpetual STRC, pay high dividends and are linked to the firm’s Bitcoin holdings. Saylor said the AI helped solve a financing problem that traditional equity and convertible debt could not, allowing Strategy to fund further Bitcoin purchases. The claim was made during a "Diary of a CEO" podcast interview, where Saylor also urged businesses to use AI to ask novel questions rather than merely automate existing tasks.
