Michael Saylor's Strategy sells Bitcoin for first time since 2022, outlines four Bitcoin ideology camps

Strategy, the Bitcoin‑holding firm led by Michael Saylor, disclosed a sale of 32 BTC in late May, raising roughly $2.5 million. The transaction, the first since 2022 and representing about 0.004 % of the company's roughly 843,706‑BTC portfolio, was made to meet dividend obligations on its perpetual preferred stock class STRC, which requires cash funding beyond the company's software cash flow. The modest sale triggered a dip in Strategy’s stock price and coincided with Bitcoin slipping below $70,000 after a two‑month run above that level.

Saylor defended the move on X, emphasizing that the goal is to make STRC a world‑class credit instrument rather than a loss of confidence in Bitcoin. In the same week, he released a paper classifying Bitcoin supporters into four groups – Maximalists, Capitalists, Technologists and Fundamentalists – describing their differing views on adoption, market integration, protocol upgrades and preservation of core principles. The paper arrived as Bitcoin traded near $60,000 amid ETF outflows and broader market weakness, adding a strategic perspective to the ongoing debate over Bitcoin’s future role in finance and technology.
