The new Netflix documentary, ‘Schumacher ’94 - The Birth of a Legend’, explores the pivotal 1994 Formula 1 season when Michael Schumacher secured his first world championship with Benetton. The film provides intimate insights into the era, focusing on the rise of ‘Schumi Mania’ and the profound impact of the tragic accidents involving Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna.

Corinna Schumacher, Michael’s wife, features prominently in the documentary, discussing their relationship and his emotional state following Senna’s death at Imola. She revealed that Schumacher was deeply devastated and seriously considered retiring from Formula 1 at that time, though he attempted to hide his internal collapse to protect his family. Former manager Willi Weber corroborated this, noting that Schumacher questioned whether he truly wanted to compete in the following race.
