Michael Showalter to direct new ‘Serendipity’ for Amazon MGM and Miramax

Michael Showalter is set to direct a new project titled ‘Serendipity’ for Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax. The film is described by Showalter not as a standard remake or reboot, but rather as a ‘rebuttal’ that will feature new characters, a new story, and fresh perspectives on love and relationships while retaining the original title.

Original screenwriter Marc Klein is returning to pen the screenplay and will serve as an executive producer. Casting for the project is currently underway. The production involves Semi-Formal Productions, led by Showalter and Jordana Mollick, alongside original producer Simon Fields. Executive producers for Miramax include Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thom Zadra.

The project follows the legacy of the 2001 romantic comedy directed by Peter Chelsom, which starred John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. The original film centered on two strangers meeting in New York on Christmas Eve and their subsequent search for one another years later.
