Michael Smith campaigns for Delaware treasurer position

Michael Smith is campaigning to become Delaware’s first openly LGBTQ treasurer. An economist and former legislative staffer, Smith aims to use his background in financial analysis to address the state's affordability crisis.

Smith holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Alabama and has held roles at the Progressive Policy Institute and Cornerstone Research. His previous experience includes working with the Delaware House Democratic Caucus and directing the nonprofit Powering Our Future, which focused on clean energy infrastructure in New Castle County.

During his campaign, Smith has emphasized the rising cost of living, specifically citing concerns regarding utility bills, property taxes, and healthcare costs. He stated that while the treasurer cannot solve all economic issues, the role is vital in helping citizens save for their future.
