Michael Stipe announces solo debut album release schedule

Former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has revealed the release timeline for his highly anticipated debut solo album. According to recent interviews with the Los Angeles Times and appearances on the Reclaiming podcast, the rollout will begin on New Year’s Eve with the release of a new song accompanied by a music video.

The full, untitled studio album is scheduled for release in May 2027. Stipe is collaborating with producer Andrew Watt and long-time associate Andy LeMaster on the project. He also confirmed that artist Peaches will feature on the record, noting that her energy is suited for certain disco-influenced tracks.

Addressing the potential political nature of his work, Stipe noted that while the songs are not focused on immediate current events, his reputation as an activist and his position in pop culture make the project inherently political. He expressed a sense of reclaiming his place in music through this creative process.
