Former NBA player Michael Sweetney has died at the age of 43. His death was announced by his wife, India, via social media. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Sweetney was a standout collegiate player at Georgetown University, where he was a finalist for the Naismith College Player of the Year award. He was selected ninth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, a class that included LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. He played two seasons for the Knicks and two seasons for the Chicago Bulls, totaling 233 NBA games.
Following his NBA career, Sweetney played professionally in various international leagues, including stints in China, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Uruguay.
