Michael Venom Page calls for MMA fighters to form a union
Mixed martial arts fighter Michael ‘Venom’ Page is advocating for the formation of a fighters' union to secure better compensation across the sport. Following his departure from the UFC to sign with Misfits Boxing, Page argued that athletes must “move as one” to gain collective leverage, rather than relying on individual complaints.
Page suggested that MMA should look to the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act of 2000 as a model. That US law was designed to protect boxers' rights, combat monopolies, and mandate financial disclosures. He noted that while individual fighters may secure lucrative deals, many athletes at the highest levels of MMA still face financial struggles.
His comments follow recent scrutiny regarding fighter pay, specifically comparing the compensation of MMA athletes to high-value deals in boxing. While UFC president Dana White has defended the promotion's pay structure by citing significant broadcast revenue, Page maintains that collective organization is necessary to empower fighters and ensure fair treatment.
