Michael Wollny awarded Bavarian Art Prize
Jazz pianist Michael Wollny has been awarded the Bavarian Art Prize in the category of ‘creative achievement’. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 12 in Munich.
Science Minister Markus Blume praised the Schweinfurt-born musician, who is a professor at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre, describing him as a Bavarian ambassador for jazz. Wollny, who studied at the Würzburg University of Music, has collaborated with prominent European musicians including Nils Landgren, Lars Danielsson, and Vincent Peirani.
The Bavarian State Government presents these art prizes, which include a 10,000 Euro endowment, across eight different categories. This honor joins a series of previous accolades for Wollny, including the European Jazz Musician of the Year title from the Académie du Jazz in 2015.
