Michael Yakimov arrested in connection with fatal Chelan Hills Fire

Michael Yakimov, an 18-year-old man from Kent, has been arrested in connection with the Chelan Hills Fire that occurred on July 4. Detectives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Yakimov on September 2.

Yakimov is the primary suspect in the fire, which resulted in the death of 69-year-old Robert M. Lister. He faces multiple potential charges, including first-degree manslaughter, first-degree arson, first-degree malicious mischief, and six counts of third-degree assault. Bail has been set at $1 million.

Investigators state that video evidence shows Yakimov firing illegal aerial fireworks from the bed of a white Dodge truck while traveling north on U.S. Highway 97. The fireworks were reportedly directed at another vehicle and toward dry grass, igniting the blaze. Sheriff Tyler Caille indicated that five other individuals are expected to face similar allegations.
