Michaela Hyklová Revives Traditional Sheep Wool Craft in Vsetín
Michaela Hyklová, a craftsperson in Vsetín, runs the atelier Vlákna života where she restores the traditional processing of local sheep wool from the Valašsko region. She handles the entire chain—from shearing the sheep, washing and carding the fleece, spinning and natural dyeing, to weaving the yarn into blankets, ponchos, clothing and other wool products.
Hyklová also offers courses that teach participants every step of the craft, including sheep shearing, wool preparation, spinning and weaving on various looms. She emphasizes that the quality of the wool depends on the care given by local shepherds, noting that animals grazing on high‑mountain herbs produce especially fragrant fibre. The interest in locally produced wool has been rising, and Hyklová’s work has earned her the regional "Pravé Valašské" quality label.
