Michaela Musilová selected for European ECM1 space mission
Slovak astrobiologist Michaela Musilová has been selected to join an international crew for the ECM1 (First European Commercial Mission). The privately funded European commercial suborbital flight is scheduled to take place between the second and third quarters of 2027.
The mission is led by Czech television producer René Šír. The crew includes Musilová, Šír, and two Polish nationals, with an additional member from Germany expected to be announced later. The mission aims to function as a cohesive scientific team rather than just a group of passengers.
This initiative symbolically connects to the historical Interkosmos program. In 1978, Czechoslovakia became the third nation to send a citizen into space via Vladimír Remek, followed by Poland and the former German Democratic Republic. ECM1 seeks to revive this Central European space legacy through a private commercial framework.
Negotiations regarding scientific and technological experiments are currently underway in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia. Musilová is actively involved in preparing these projects, which must undergo rigorous technical and professional certification processes before being officially included in the flight program.
