Michal Šimečka defends Ivan Korčok amid salary controversy

Michal Šimečka, leader of the Progressive Slovakia party, has addressed recent controversies regarding the payment of party salaries to Vice President Ivan Korčok. During a campaign tour in Myjava, Šimečka defended the party against accusations from critics who suggest that Korčok received tens of thousands of euros via a company owned by his wife, raising questions about potential tax avoidance.

Šimečka admitted the party made a mistake but argued that the situation cannot be compared to the practices of the Smer party. During interactions with voters, Šimečka also addressed economic concerns, warning about the risks of national debt and the potential for bankruptcy if state spending is not managed carefully. He stated that the party does not intend to cut pensions for those earning under 1,700 euros but suggested that higher pensions may need adjustments to maintain fiscal stability.
