Michaël R. Roskam unveils trailer for WWII resistance film ‘Le Faux Soir’

Director Michaël R. Roskam has released the trailer for his new film, ‘Le Faux Soir’, ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Based on Marie Istas’ 1993 nonfiction book, the film depicts a true historical event from 1943 during the Nazi occupation of Belgium.

The story follows a group of Belgian resistance members in Brussels who orchestrated a bold act of defiance by publishing a satirical, fake edition of the national newspaper ‘Le Soir’. At the time, the actual newspaper had been confiscated by German forces to serve as a tool for Nazi propaganda. The resistance aimed to boost Belgian morale by producing a version of the paper that used humor and satire to ridicule the occupiers.

The film stars Arieh Worthalter as Marc ‘Yvon’ Aubrion, a poet who joins the resistance to print subversive material. The production features a large ensemble of Belgian and French talent, including Mélanie Thierry, Karim Leklou, and Bouli Lanners. In Belgium, the film is scheduled for theatrical release by Cinéart on December 2, 2026.
