Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis announced that the country’s organized crime has been nearly decimated. He stated that the Greek FBI has dismantled more than 270 criminal organizations over the past two years, involving various offenses such as fraud, VAT theft, and extortion.

Regarding law enforcement efforts, Chrysochoidis noted that the extortion department has doubled its personnel, resulting in 2,000 arrests and over 700 detentions. Additionally, 26,000 alcohol tests were conducted in Attica within a single week to combat drunk driving.

On infrastructure and administration, the Minister addressed the future of the Koridallos prison, stating it will be phased out in favor of new facilities in Aspropyrgos, which are expected to be operational within four years. He also urged citizens to update their identity cards, noting that older versions are no longer valid, and advised that appointments at police stations can be found quickly by checking different departments.

Finally, Chrysochoidis commented on the situation in Mykonos, stating that law enforcement has worked to restore order and normalcy on the island over the last three years following a period where state presence was lacking.
