Michalis Mitakidis discusses musical career and personal sacrifices

Michalis Mitakidis, the founder and singer of the legendary group Active Member, shared insights into his 35-year musical career during an appearance on the show ‘Studio 4’.

Reflecting on his musical influences, Mitakidis noted that his life was soundtracked by traditional folk music and the golden era of soul, eventually leading him to discover hip hop. He also credited the epic nature of Homeric verse for influencing his unique approach to songwriting, which moved away from simple melodic lines toward more complex lyrical structures.

Mitakidis discussed the personal sacrifices required by his intense dedication to music, noting that he has written over 2,500 songs. He expressed that his obsession with creation often came at a cost to his personal life and his role as a father. He also spoke about his son, Ramon, who grew up in recording studios and has followed in his footsteps, noting that while his son excels in freestyle, there is still much work to be done to reach his level of songwriting.
