Michalis Reppas and Thanasis Papathanasiou discuss past critical backlash
Michalis Reppas and Thanasis Papathanasiou appeared on the program ‘Kalitera De Ginetai’ to discuss their careers in entertainment, including theater, television, and film. During the interview, they addressed the negative critical reception their cinematic works received in the past.
Reppas noted that their film ‘Safe Sex’ was met with significant criticism despite its popularity with audiences. He stated that critics often targeted their four films with negative reviews, specifically mentioning how newspapers would mark their work with a ‘black square.’ He also highlighted the film ‘Oxygono,’ which was dismissed by some as light entertainment but eventually won the FIPRESCI prize at the 2003 Thessaloniki Film Festival.
Papathanasiou commented on the changing attitudes toward actors transitioning from television to film. He recalled that during the release of ‘Safe Sex,’ the cast faced accusations of being merely ‘television actors,’ a stigma he noted has largely disappeared as major actors now move freely between mediums.
