Michalovce Hospital installs new linear accelerator for oncology

Penta Hospitals Michalovce has unveiled a modernized radiation oncology department featuring a new Elekta linear accelerator. The device, valued at approximately 2.5 million euros, is designed to target tumors with millimeter precision, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue and potentially reducing side effects for patients.

The broader modernization of the oncology facility cost over 4.1 million euros, funded through a combination of the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan and the hospital's own resources. In addition to the linear accelerator, the project included the installation of a new CT simulator, modern dosimetry equipment, specialized software, and the reconstruction of clinical spaces.

The facility aims to provide comprehensive oncological care for the Eastern Slovakia and Zemplín regions, offering services ranging from oncological surgery to accredited mammography and screening centers. Operations with the new equipment are expected to begin in November.
