Michel Martelly files candidacy for Haiti's 2026 presidential election
Former Haitian President Michel Joseph Martelly has officially filed his candidacy for the 2026 presidential election. On September 22, 2026, Martelly submitted his application under the banner of the political group DEBLOKE.
This move follows earlier speculation after Martelly registered as a voter in Pétion-Ville on August 30. While the filing marks a significant step toward his return to power, the candidacy is not yet finalized. The application must undergo a verification and compliance process by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) before official validation.
The first round of the presidential election is scheduled for December 13, 2026. The political group DEBLOKE had previously contacted the government on August 18 to request guarantees regarding state neutrality and the security of the electoral process.
