Micheál Martin addresses hoax bomb threats in Ireland

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has addressed a series of hoax bomb threats targeting Irish media organisations, including the national broadcaster RTÉ. The threats, which occurred on Friday, November 6, prompted the evacuation of RTÉ’s Dublin studios and a temporary suspension of broadcasting.

Mr. Martin noted that while the perpetrators have not been identified, there is a ‘general view’ that the attacks on media outlets, airlines, and supermarket refrigeration systems may have a ‘Russian dimension’. He emphasized that cyber security remains a constant battle and a significant ongoing threat.

Despite these incidents, the Taoiseach expressed confidence in the safety of upcoming political summits in Dublin. The city is set to host the European Political Community summit and an informal EU Council meeting next week. Mr. Martin described the upcoming security measures as the largest in the history of the state, involving the Garda, the Defence Forces, and the Cyber Security Centre.
