Micheál Martin rejects claims Ireland is overrun by immigrants

Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin has rejected claims that Ireland is being ‘overrun’ by immigrants, stating that the country is not facing such a situation ‘in any shape or form.’ In interviews with Fox News Digital, Martin noted that while demographic changes are significant—with nearly one in four residents being foreign-born—much of this is driven by legal migration linked to Ireland’s economic success.

Martin acknowledged that the previous asylum system was ‘too slow’ in processing applications following a record surge in requests. He stated that the government has since taken steps to accelerate both the application consideration and the appeals process. He identified illegal migration as a ‘more potent issue’ and noted that migration has created significant political pressures across Europe.

Regarding deportations, Martin explained that many individuals leave voluntarily when their applications are rejected, as they do not receive payments or support once denied. He also indicated that the government is developing a new migration strategy to address these challenges robustly and fairly.
