Michela Murgia's Accabadora to be staged as a monologue in Milan
The theatrical performance of Accabadora, based on the award-winning novel by the late Sardinian author Michela Murgia, will run from 2 to 7 November at the Teatro Fontana in Milan.
The production is a monologue featuring actress Anna Della Rosa, with dramaturgy by Carlotta Corradi and direction by Veronica Cruciani. Produced by Savà Produzioni Creative, the play adapts Murgia's 2009 work, which earned the SuperMondello and Campiello prizes.
Set in a Sardinian village in the early 1950s, the story explores the bond between a young girl named Maria and Bonaria Urrai. Bonaria is an ‘accabadora’—a term derived from the Spanish ‘acabar’, meaning to finish—referring to someone who provides a merciful death when necessary. The narrative follows Maria's journey as she discovers the true nature of her mentor and attempts to forge a new life.
