Sardinia double homicide: Michela Rubiu dies after month-long struggle
Michela Rubiu, 47, has died at the Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari after spending 25 days in intensive care following a shooting on July 23. The victim was shot in the head by her husband, Alessandro Pintus, 39, inside the bar the couple managed in Solanas.
Before attacking his wife, Pintus shot and killed his brother-in-law, Andrea, 42, at his home in Quartu Sant’Elena. The suspect has confessed to the crimes. Following Rubiu's death, prosecutors in Cagliari are expected to upgrade the charges to multiple premeditated willful homicide.
The Mayor of Sinnai, Maria Barbara Pusceddu, has declared a period of municipal mourning, describing the event as a brutal tragedy that has left the local communities of Sinnai and Solanas in a state of shock and anger. Investigations are ongoing to determine the specific motive behind the double murder.
