Michele Caddeo, Sardinian inmate, writes from prison about hope to become author
Michele Caddeo, a 40‑year‑old man from Cagliari, is serving a long sentence in the high‑security Nuchis prison in Sardinia after being convicted of drug‑related offenses. In a handwritten letter to the editor of L'Unione Sarda, he describes his life behind bars, his limited formal education, and his desire to become a writer. Caddeo says that writing provides a therapeutic escape, allowing him to project his thoughts beyond the prison walls.
He is working on a book titled “Historia,” which he hopes to publish soon, and plans a follow‑up called “Big boss, realtà, sogno, incubo.” Through his letters, Caddeo reflects on his past, the collapse of the prison system, and his aspirations for a new life beyond incarceration.
