Michele Pavone Macaluso, prominent urologist, dies at 93
Michele Pavone Macaluso, a renowned international urologist and long-time professor at the University of Palermo, has died at the age of 93.
Born in Palermo in 1933, Pavone Macaluso followed a distinguished family lineage in medicine. His career included significant international experience in the 1960s, working at Emory University in Atlanta and the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as periods of specialization in Paris and Lund, Sweden.
He was a pioneer in establishing ties with Chinese urologists and held major leadership roles, including Vice President of the International Society of Urology and President of the Italian Society of Urologic Oncology. His contributions include founding the International School of Urology and Nephrology at the Ettore Majorana Center in Erice and authoring the Italian Treatise of Urology. He was a recipient of the Willy Gregoire Medal and the Roth Prize.
