Michele Pinto, former Italian Minister and Senator, dies at 95

Former Italian Senator and Minister Michele Pinto has passed away at the age of 95. He died at his holiday home in Sangineto, in the province of Cosenza.

Pinto had a long political career, having been a member of the Christian Democracy party and later the Italian People's Party. Following the 1996 elections, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies under the L’Ulivo coalition and subsequently served as the Minister of Agricultural, Food, and Forestry Policies in the first Prodi government from 1996 to 1998.

As President of the Senate Justice Commission, he was the primary promoter of the ‘Pinto Law,’ which provides for equitable compensation for damages caused by the unreasonable duration of legal proceedings. He also served as Vice President of the Senate and was awarded the title of Knight Grand Cross of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Funeral services are scheduled to take place on August 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Salerno.
