Michelin launches airless Tweel tire for specialized vehicles

Michelin has begun commercialising its Tweel, an air‑free tyre that cannot be punctured. The design combines a tread band with flexible internal spokes that deform under load and then return to shape.

The Tweel is currently limited to niche applications such as golf carts, agricultural machinery and certain military vehicles. It is not suited to regular passenger cars because the lack of air cushion increases vibration and heat friction, especially at higher speeds, and it does not provide the same ride comfort as conventional tyres.
