Michelle Bachelet praised by Al Gore amid UN secretary‑general campaign
Former U.S. vice‑president and Nobel laureate Al Gore visited Chile for a climate summit and, in an interview, called former President Michelle Bachelet “a fantastic candidate” for United Nations secretary‑general. Gore highlighted her climate leadership and expressed confidence she would excel in the role.
Bachelet is on an intensive diplomatic tour to build support for her candidacy, having already visited eight of the fifteen Security Council member states. Her campaign schedule kept her away from domestic events, including the 200‑year commemoration of Chile’s presidential institution, where President José Antonio Kast met former President Gabriel Boric but Bachelet could not attend due to her overseas trip to Pakistan, Bahrain and Liberia.
