Michelle Bachelet resumes public activities after UN bid withdrawal

Former President Michelle Bachelet is resuming her public activities following her decision to withdraw her candidacy for the Secretary-General of the United Nations. During a tribute held in La Pintana, Chile, Bachelet stated that she does not intend to leave public life, emphasizing the importance of memory in strengthening democracy and defending human rights.

Bachelet has invited the public to participate in the Festival de la Memoria, scheduled for October 3 and 4 at the Parque Estadio Nacional. President Gabriel Boric is confirmed to attend the event and will participate in the 'Carpa del Pensamiento' on Sunday, October 4.

On the international stage, Bachelet is scheduled to travel to the Dominican Republic on October 8. There, she will present a report on geopolitics prepared by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which addresses topics such as the erosion of democracy, challenges to multilateralism, and the climate crisis. She also continues her role as Vice President of the Club de Madrid.
