Michelle Bolsonaro appeals court ruling over Joice Hasselmann video
Michelle Bolsonaro has appealed a decision by the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT) regarding a request to remove a social media video featuring former federal deputy Joice Hasselmann. In the video, Hasselmann refers to the former First Lady as a ‘santa do pau oco’ (a hypocrite) and a ‘great fraud.’
A lower court ruling in August denied the initial request to delete the content, stating that Hasselmann’s remarks fell within the scope of political criticism and the exchange of narratives between public figures.
In the new appeal, Bolsonaro’s legal team argues that the statements crossed the line into personal attacks involving contempt and discrimination based on gender. The defense contends that while there is public interest in discussing the political actions of a former First Lady, there is no legitimate public interest in disclosing private information regarding past romantic relationships, pregnancy circumstances, or the criminal records of her family members.
