Michelle Bolsonaro confirmed as PL Senate candidate for Distrito Federal
The Partido Liberal (PL) formalised Michelle Bolsonaro’s candidacy for the Senate representing the Distrito Federal during its convention in Brasília on Sunday, 2 May. Although the nomination was expected, she did not attend the event because she was hospitalised with a severe migraine. Doctors performed a cranial nerve block and she was discharged later that day. Her brother, Diego Torres, read a letter on her behalf, reiterating her support for Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential bid and thanking party members.
The same convention also announced Bia Kicis as a Senate candidate for the district. The nominations aim to solidify the PL’s ticket ahead of the 2026 elections, following recent internal disputes between Michelle and her stepson, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, which have now been publicly reconciled.
Michelle Bolsonaro, the former first lady, will run for the Senate for the first time, positioning the party’s leadership around the Bolsonaro family as it seeks to expand its appeal, especially among female voters.
