Brazil elections 2026: PL party secures largest caucus in Chamber of Deputies

The 2026 Brazilian elections have established the composition for the 58th legislature, beginning in February 2027. The Chamber of Deputies will see a 35.67% renewal rate, with 183 new members taking office. The Liberal Party (PL) has emerged as the largest force in the Chamber with 121 deputies, followed by the Brasil da Esperança Federation (PT, PCdoB, PV) with 88 seats, and the União Progressista Federation (União Brasil, PP) with 87 seats.

In the Senate, the PL also secured a dominant position, electing 19 senators and potentially holding a significant bloc for future negotiations. The MDB and PT follow with seven and six elected senators, respectively.

Demographic shifts show a record-breaking increase in female representation, with 108 women elected to the Chamber of Deputies, marking the largest female caucus in the House's history. However, the number of black and mixed-race deputies saw a slight decline, decreasing from 139 in 2022 to 135 in the current election. Indigenous representation also decreased, with only three candidates securing seats in the Chamber.
