Michelle Bolsonaro confirmed Senate candidacy for Distrito Federal

Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro confirmed she will run as a pre‑candidate for the Senate representing the Distrito Federal for the Liberal Party (PL). The announcement was made at the PL national convention on 2 August 2026 in Brasília, where a letter read by her brother Diego Torres conveyed her decision. Michelle was absent from the event because she had been hospitalized with a severe migraine since 1 August 2026 and underwent a cranial nerve‑block procedure and magnetic‑resonance scan. Party leaders Valdemar Costa Neto and Bia Kicis publicly endorsed her candidacy, and Flávio Bolsonaro wished her a speedy recovery during the convention.

The PL convention also confirmed the candidacy of deputy Bia Kicis for the Senate and endorsed the re‑election of Governor Celina Leão. Michelle’s entry into the race marks her first bid for elected office and is a key element of the PL’s strategy to capture both Senate seats from the Distrito Federal in the 2026 elections.
