Michelle Branch reflects on industry competition and new EP

Singer Michelle Branch has reflected on the competitive environment female artists faced during her rise to fame in the early 2000s. In a recent interview, she noted that the industry frequently attempted to pit her against peers such as Avril Lavigne and Vanessa Carlton, a dynamic she described as a burden that hindered her ability to establish a unique identity.

Branch observed a positive shift in the modern music landscape, citing increased camaraderie and support among female artists. She pointed to inclusive events, such as Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Music Festival, as evidence of a more progressive and supportive atmosphere for emerging talent.

In addition to her reflections on the industry, Branch is preparing for the November 6 release of her 25th anniversary EP, ‘Everywhere and Back Again’. The project features reimagined versions of her popular songs, including ‘Breathe’ and ‘All You Wanted’, with contributions from guest artists such as Maren Morris.
