Michelle Gisin evaluates comeback options after severe injury

Two-time Olympic alpine skier Michelle Gisin is undergoing a complex rehabilitation process following a severe accident in St. Moritz on December 11. The crash resulted in serious injuries to her left knee, right wrist, and cervical spine, at one point raising the possibility of spinal cord paralysis.

Eight months after the incident, Gisin reported that she has transitioned from pure physiotherapy to physical training, noting her ability to perform squats with 40-50 kg. While her coordination remains high, a return to snow training and competitive racing is still distant. She noted that while her peers are training in South America, such a move is currently impossible for her.

Gisin is currently considering three possible paths for her future: returning for the 2027 World Championships in Crans-Montana, aiming for the 2027/28 World Cup season, or retiring from professional skiing. A definitive decision is expected this autumn. "I don't want to end my career on a physiotherapist's couch," Gisin stated, expressing her determination to attempt a comeback if her recovery allows.
