Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library celebrates 10th anniversary

The Long Beach Public Library is hosting a free community celebration to mark the 10th anniversary of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library in North Long Beach. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mayor Rex Richardson described the library as a “hub for learning, creativity and connection” over the last decade. The anniversary festivities will include various activities such as storytelling by Ina the Sunshine Storyteller, a “Teen Sketch-n-Nibble” artistic competition, tote bag customization for adults, and party hat decorating for children.

Cathy De Leon, Director of the Department of Library, Arts and Culture, noted that the library serves as a reflection of the community it serves.
