Michelle Zauner announces new memoir ‘Thank You for Your Suffering’
Michelle Zauner, the singer-songwriter known as the frontwoman of Japanese Breakfast, has announced her second memoir, ‘Thank You for Your Suffering’. The book is scheduled for release on April 27, 2027, via Knopf.
Serving as a follow-up to her bestselling 2021 memoir ‘Crying in H Mart’, this new work chronicles a year Zauner spent living in Seoul, South Korea. During this time, she lived with her husband and bandmate Peter Bradley, enrolled in language school, and sought to reconnect with her late mother’s family and heritage through the Korean language.
The title is derived from the Korean expression ‘Gosaeng haesseoyo’, a polite way of acknowledging someone’s effort that literally translates closer to ‘You suffered’. While her previous memoir focused on processing her mother’s death, this book explores her journey of cultural reconnection and the challenges of mastering a new language.
