Michiel Kramer reveals 1,000 euro fine for eating croquette
Former Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer has revealed that he was fined 1,000 euros following a 2017 incident known as ‘kroketgate’. During a cup match against Heracles Almelo in December 2017, Kramer was filmed eating a ‘broodje kroket’ (croquette sandwich) on the substitute bench during halftime.
Kramer discussed the event on the program ‘Vandaag Inside’, noting that the sanction was issued by then-technical director Martin van Geel, who deemed the behavior unprofessional. Kramer mentioned that the incident continues to follow him, even appearing on the menus of amateur football clubs where his children play.
Reflecting on the punishment, Kramer questioned the consistency of professional football standards. He pointed out that while his snack resulted in a significant fine and exclusion from the squad, the use of snus (nicotine pouches) was widely tolerated in the locker room, which he argued is a more harmful habit.
