Michigan 7-Eleven owner hosts fundraiser for Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed
Ali Haider, a 7-Eleven franchisee in western Michigan, hosted a fundraiser titled ‘Muslims for Abdul’ for Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. Campaign disclosures show Haider also donated nearly $2,000 to the campaign.
Haider was previously sued by the Department of Labor in 2023 for allegedly denying overtime pay to 13 employees. He eventually reached a settlement agreement to pay more than $35,000 to the workers.
Following the fundraiser, El-Sayed’s campaign reportedly holds over $4.5 million. In local polls, El-Sayed currently holds a 3% lead over Republican candidate Rep. Mike Rogers.
