Michigan defeats Penn State 21-18 following quarterback change
Michigan defeated Penn State 21-18 in a Big Ten matchup at Michigan Stadium. The game was defined by a significant mid-game quarterback change for the Wolverines. After a scoreless first half in which Michigan trailed 3-0, head coach Kyle Whittingham benched sophomore Bryce Underwood in favor of true freshman Tommy Carr.
Carr provided the necessary spark, leading Michigan on three second-half touchdown drives. His efforts included a decisive 12-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. Michigan's defense also contributed by forcing three turnovers in the second half, which helped secure the victory.
Penn State, led by quarterback Rocco Becht, initially controlled the game with a methodical opening drive that resulted in a Ryan Barker field goal. Despite Becht throwing one touchdown pass to Chase Sowell late in the game, the Nittany Lions' offense struggled with turnovers and a lack of rushing production, marking their fourth consecutive loss and leaving them at 0-4 in conference play.
