Michigan football faces consistency and offensive line challenges

Despite an undefeated 3-0 start to the season, Michigan football faces internal challenges regarding consistency and offensive performance. Coach Kyle Whittingham has noted a lack of focus and energy in several game halves, describing the team's enthusiasm as something that “ebbs and flows.”

This inconsistency is partly attributed to a significant age gap between the units; while the defense features many experienced fourth- and fifth-year players, the offense is led by a young group, including sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood.

Statistical analysis also highlights struggles within the offensive line. While Michigan ranks 12th nationally in pass blocking, its run blocking grade is 79th in the country, averaging only 147.6 rushing yards per game. Injuries and frequent rotations have impacted the unit's stability as the team prepares to face a top-ranked Iowa defense.
