Michigan grocery worker receives $250,000 after viral prank

A grocery store employee in Michigan, identified as Walt Z, has received over $250,000 in donations following a viral social media prank. The incident occurred when a content creator used a fake Apple Pay sound and animation to simulate taking $10 from the worker while he was stocking frozen pizzas.

The worker expressed visible frustration during the encounter, citing personal struggles including the need to support four children and difficulties paying his mortgage. The footage of his reaction spread rapidly across social media platforms.

In response to the video, a GoFundMe campaign titled ‘Support a Harassed Red Baron Worker’ was launched. The fundraiser raised more than $250,000 in less than 24 hours. While social media users have attempted to identify the prankster as Carter Robert Porter and linked him to the deactivated Instagram account @thea.ctiveworld, these identifications have not been independently verified.
