Michigan Heat Advisory and Severe Storms Impact Residents

The National Weather Service in Gaylord, Michigan issued severe thunderstorm warnings on the night of July 1, reporting wind gusts up to 60 mph across northern Michigan counties. The storms moved eastward at about 40 mph, prompting cautions about roof, siding and tree damage. A concurrent heat advisory covering parts of the eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula remained in effect until the evening of July 2, with heat index values expected to reach 103 °F.

Separately, an Extreme Heat Warning was declared for southeast Michigan, including Washtenaw, Oakland, Macomb and several other counties, from the evening of July 2 through July 3. Heat index readings could climb to 105 °F, heightening the risk of heat‑related illnesses. Residents were urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
