Michigan Lottery winner receives $100,000 a year for life

A 71-year-old woman from Ingham County, Michigan, has won $100,000 a year for life through the Michigan Lottery’s ‘Millionaire For Life’ game. The winner, who requested anonymity, purchased her winning ticket online.

After matching five white balls in the August 20 drawing, the player initially mistook the notification for a $2,000 prize. She has opted to receive her winnings as annual payments of $100,000 for 20 years or for life, rather than a single lump-sum payment of $2.2 million. She intends to use the funds for home renovations and savings.

This is only the second time the second-tier prize has been claimed since the game launched on February 22. The first winner was a woman from Charlevoix County.
