Michigan Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow blames Trump for Gordie Howe Bridge delay

Democratic Michigan Senate hopeful Mallory McMorrow has launched a TV ad accusing President Donald Trump of blocking the opening of the $6.4‑billion Gordie Howe International Bridge that spans the Detroit River and links Detroit with Windsor, Ontario. The bridge’s ribbon‑cutting ceremony, slated for June 12, was postponed after U.S. and Canadian officials said “outstanding issues” remained. In the ad McMorrow stands before the structure and says, “I’m Mallory McMorrow and I have one message for the president: Open this damn bridge.” She alleges Trump’s opposition is tied to a $1 million donation from Matthew Moroun, whose family owns the rival Ambassador Bridge and has long opposed the public project. The controversy is being turned into a campaign issue in a tightly contested Democratic primary that also includes U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens and Abdul El‑Sayed, with the winner expected to face Republican Sen. Mike Rogers in the November midterms.
