Michigan Senate passes resolution condemning deportation of Ukrainian children

The Michigan Senate has unanimously passed resolution SR 141, which condemns the abduction and forced deportation of Ukrainian children by the Russian Federation. The resolution was brought forward by Nadija Packauskas, a resident of the Copper Country and member of the Yoopers for Ukraine activist group.

Packauskas and her father, Vytautas, have participated in weekly marches near the Portage Lake Lift Bridge for over four years to show solidarity with Ukraine. The legislative effort was supported by State Senator Ed McBroom and State Representative Greg Markkanen. Senator McBroom and Senator Stephanie Chang co-sponsored the resolution, which is now finalized in the state senate.
